Six-year-old Dahlia is at the end of her cancer treatment plan. Her wish was for the “coolest” bedroom with bunk beds for her and her big sister to share. Dahlia’s favourite colour is pink and her sister’s is purple. That’s what her room was painted by a group of IKEA Etobicoke co-workers beginning their special duties on a Saturday. By Sunday afternoon, the girls had a room full of new furniture, craft supplies, framed photos of themselves along with all their favourite characters and singing groups and yes, a bunk bed!
“I can touch the ceiling,” Dahlia said from the top of her bed. “I feel like I’m on a mountain.”
Dahlia was overwhelmed by the big reveal, but it didn’t take long for her and her family to experience the room. After dinner and cake, Dahlia drew a blue and yellow building, a big sun, shopping cart and two IKEA Etobicoke co-workers along with “Thank you IKEA.”
Excitingly, Dahlia’s wish was the 800th wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario!
