Corporate Partnerships and Sponsorships
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario offers companies the opportunity to increase their exposure and align with a well-recognized charity. The Make-A-Wish® brand is powerful. People everywhere have been touched by stories of seeing a child's most cherished wish come true. The awareness for our cause creates opportunities for businesses interested in supporting the Foundation's work while showing customers they care.
Businesses can also experience the joy of granting wishes by sponsoring one of our annual special events. Your support will help create magic for our wish children and their families during a time when it is needed most. What could be more meaningful then knowing that you made the difference in the lives of seriously ill children?

Wishes at Work
Wishes at Work enables employees of a company to join together and design a fund-raising event or ongoing workplace campaign that fits the needs of their particular work environment. We are constantly amazed and delighted at the variety of ways in which employees raise funds to help us continue granting wishes.
If you would like to begin a Wishes at Work program, we would be happy to help. Here are some tips to help you get started:
-
Invite a Make-A-Wish® volunteer speaker to share information about our organization with your company's employees.
-
Designate one person to lead the Wishes at Work campaign and consider forming a Make-A-Wish committee.
-
Set your goal and chart your progress.
-
Challenge other offices, divisions and departments to see who can raise the most funds.
Submit your donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® on a regular basis.

However, we have an ongoing need for new and age-appropriate "wish enhancement" gifts for children between the ages of three and 17.
Your donation of the following items would be much appreciated:
- Beach Towels, Bags, Coolers and other Beach Accessories

Adopt-A-Wish® Program
Sponsoring a child's wish through the Adopt-A-Wish program is a way for individuals, businesses, foundations and community groups to make a positive and immediate impact on the life of a wish child.
Created to give our caring community special insight into the joyful experience of a child's wish come true, through the Adopt-A-Wish program donors may sponsor a child's wish with a minimum amount of $8000.
Whether it is to meet a favourite celebrity, receive a computer, have a makeover or travel to Walt Disney World® Resort, by supporting a wish you can be part of the magic.
Adopt-A-Wish sponsors receive non-identifying information about their wish child and a brief description of the wish. Following the child’s wish, Adopt-A-Wish sponsors receive detailed information about the wish experience. Participation in the Adopt-A-Wish program provides a unique and significant opportunity for donors to learn about the hope, strength and joy that their gift has brought to a wish child and their family.
Adopt-A-Wish sponsors also receive:
• A special recognition plaque.
• Receipt for your gift (if applicable under Revenue Canada’s guidelines).
• Acknowledgement on our annual website donor recognition list.

Kids For Wish Kids® Program
Here's a chance for students and teachers to have tons of fun while helping to make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. As a Kids for Wish Kids partner, you can team up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario and coordinate a fund raiser at your school, college or university.
Kids for Wish Kids is managed by students like you. You are responsible for forming committees, coming up with fund-raising ideas and carrying them out. Teachers and parents often serve as advisors, but ownership of the project belongs to you.
When you commit to fund raising, we will designate your Kids for Wish Kids funds towards a specific wish. You will receive non-identifying information about your sponsored wish child and his/her family, and a brief description of the wish. After the wish is completed, we'll provide you with information on your child's wish experience.
Kids for Wish Kids not only helps to increase awareness of the Make-A-Wish® mission, but it also fosters the value of community service and school spirit. And it's fun! Contact our office at swontariochapter@makeawish.ca or (519) 471-4900 if you would like to receive more information about Kids for Wish Kids or would like to have a representative come to your school to tell you more about our organization.

Gifts of Securities
Donate gifts of publicly traded securities
Thanks to the federal government’s elimination of capital gains tax on gifts of publicly traded securities, like stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, you no longer pay capital gains tax when you donate appreciated securities to public charities.
When individuals sell an appreciated stock or mutual fund, they’re required to pay tax on 50 per cent of their capital gain. However, if they donate the securities to charity, they pay no capital gains tax. This makes appreciated stock one of the most cost-effective ways to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario!
If you would like to receive information about how your financial support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation
of Southwestern Ontario can impact a child's life, please contact Lori
Quick at (519) 471-4900 ext. 22 or lori.quick@makeawish.ca.
Legacy of Wishes
Leave a Legacy of Hope, Strength and Joy
Pass along the power to make wishes come true for future generations by including a legacy gift to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario in your estate plans.
Your gift today will ensure tomorrow’s wishes, and give hope, strength and joy to children living with life-threatening medical conditions.
Your legacy for wishes can take several forms, including:
Bequests: Make a gift to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario through your Will.
Life Insurance: Use an existing policy or create a new policy to make your donation.
Appreciated Securities: Donate appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds and take advantage of the best tax benefits.
A legacy gift should take your personal financial situation and needs into account. As with all estate matters, we recommend that you consult with your lawyer and/or financial advisor to determine what kind of legacy gift would be best for you, your heirs and your estate.
If you choose to make a planned gift to the Make-A-Wish Foundation
of Southwestern Ontario through a bequest in your Will, gift of life
insurance, RRSP or another planned giving vehicle, your professional
advisor will need to know our legal name and charitable business
number. Our legal name is Make-A-Wish Foundation® (S.W.O.) known as the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario. Our charitable business number is 11902 9494 RR0001.
Bequests
The most commonly planned gift is a charitable bequest. Making a bequest to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario in your Will allows you to make a gift from your estate. You can designate a specific gift amount, or contribute all or a portion of your estate.
Benefits include:
- Your cash resources won’t be affected while you need them during your lifetime.
-
The final taxes to be paid on your estate may be significantly reduced, which can be a big advantage for your heirs.
Please note, if you die without a Will, the government will appoint a public trustee who will decide how the assets of your estate will be distributed. Make sure your wishes are honoured by having a Will.
Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance is a creative way to help build our long-term financial strength without diminishing your own. You can purchase a new life insurance policy and designate the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario as the beneficiary, or make us the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.
Benefits include:
- By paying small premiums during your lifetime, you can support wishes with a significant gift upon your death.
- You’ll receive tax credits on the premiums that you pay each year.
Gifting Securities Through Your Estate
You can donate publicly traded securities like stocks, bonds or mutual funds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario either during your lifetime or in your Will.
Thanks to the federal government’s elimination of capital gains tax on gifts of publicly traded securities like stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, when you donate appreciated securities to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario as part of your estate plans:
-
You won’t have to pay any capital gains tax on appreciated securities if they are donated directly to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario.
- You or your estate will receive tax credits that will lower income tax payable.

Employee Giving
Workplace Campaigns
Today, many companies are looking to provide a link between charitable causes and their employees. We welcome the opportunity to participate in employee giving plans, corporate gift-matching programs and fund-raising events hosted by corporate partners. Foundation staff and committed volunteers also are available to educate your employees on our mission and support company campaigns.
If you would like to include the Make-A-Wish Foundation® in your existing employee giving campaign, or if your company does not have an employee giving program but would like to establish one in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, please ask the person responsible for your workplace giving program to contact Lori Quick at (519) 471-4900 ext. 22.
Matching Gift Funds
Many medium and large-sized companies offer a matching gifts program. Contact your human resources department to see if the Make-A-Wish Foundation qualifies for a company-matched gift. This is a great opportunity to increase the collective contributions from employee giving or the funds raised at a special event.
